Outdoor and garden lighting
Festoon runs, garden spike lights, sensor lighting and lighting for entertaining areas, installed weatherproof and properly across the St George area and the Sutherland Shire.
What we install
- Festoon lighting across pergolas, decks and courtyards
- Garden spike lights and path lighting
- Tree and feature uplighting
- Sensor lights for driveways, side passages and entries
- Weatherproof outdoor power points
- Step and stair lighting
- Timers and phone app control
Weatherproofing, and why it matters more near the water
Anything installed outdoors has a shorter life than the same fitting indoors, and closer to the water it is shorter again. Salt air works on the seals and the fixings, moisture gets into the fitting, and the first sign is usually a safety switch that trips after rain and resets once things dry out.
That is not a quirk to live with. A circuit tripping after rain means current is leaking to earth. Around Sans Souci, Carss Park and Cronulla we replace a steady number of outdoor fittings for exactly this reason, and using fittings rated properly for the position is most of the fix.
A recent job in Hurstville Grove
A client on Laycock Road wanted lighting through the garden and along the side of the house. We installed spike lights on a timer at the front and festoon lighting down the side, with sensors front and back. Two days on site.
Sensors, timers and app control
Outdoor lighting is more useful when it does not depend on anyone remembering a switch. Sensors suit driveways, side passages and entries. Timers suit garden and feature lighting that should simply come on at dusk.
App control earns its place where lighting is used for entertaining rather than security. A client on Castle Street in Blakehurst wanted their festoon run switchable from a phone rather than a wall switch, so the lights can be turned on from wherever people are sitting.
Lighting that solves the actual problem
Not every dark yard needs floodlights. One client had been quoted sensor spot lights by several electricians for a backyard that was too dark at night, and ended up with tree lighting instead, which lit the space without the glare.
It is worth describing what you want the area to feel like rather than the fitting you think you need.

Wanted to add lighting to our backyard as too dark at night. All other electricians recommend sensor spot lights but select electrical contracting recommend tree lighting. We went ahead with George and couldn’t be happier with the results! Highly recommend!
I highly recommend George at Select Electrical for all electrical needs. He did a fantastic job installing new lights throughout my house and backyard. His service was fast, reliable and thorough.
Where we work
Outdoor lighting earns its keep on the waterfront blocks around Kyle Bay, Connells Point, Carss Park, Blakehurst and Sans Souci, and we install through the rest of the St George area and down the Shire to Cronulla.
