Adding points to a finished room
The question is almost always how to get the cable there without making a mess of the walls. In a cavity brick or timber framed wall there is usually a route through the cavity. In solid construction there may not be, and the honest answer is surface ducting, which can be run neatly and painted so it disappears.
A client on James Street in Blakehurst had an apartment that was short of power points. We ran the new cabling through the cavity space, so the additional outlets went in without any visible ducting. Four hours on site.
When a point needs its own circuit
Not every new outlet can simply be spurred off what is already there. An appliance that draws heavily, such as an oven, a cooktop, an air conditioner or a second fridge, usually needs a dedicated circuit back to the switchboard. If the board is already full, that is the point at which an upgrade stops being optional.
We check what a circuit is already carrying before adding to it, rather than after.
Outdoor points and outbuildings
Outdoor power points have to be weatherproof rated and RCD protected. Getting supply to a detached garage, shed or outdoor kitchen is a bigger job than it looks, because it usually means a properly sized sub-main rather than an extension of an existing circuit.
One client wanted power run to a new fridge in a new outdoor barbecue area. Getting supply to the right place meant digging a trench across the yard. A full day on site.
USB outlets and charging
Combination USB outlets are worth doing in bedrooms, kitchens and home offices while a point is already being changed, since the labour is the same. Worth deciding before we start rather than calling us back.

I had a really good experience with Select electrical contracting. They arrived on time, were friendly and professional, and took the time to explain what needed to be done. The work was carried out safely and efficiently, and everything was left clean and tidy afterwards. Pricing was transparent with no surprises.
George the electrician did a fantastic job. He was professional, reliable, and completed the work to a very high standard. What really impressed me was how clean and tidy he left everything afterwards. Highly recommend his services!
